I was inspired to write this post with the anticipation of Easter being this weekend. Holidays and special occasions have a tendency to make people go off track with their health and fitness routine. I myself is very much guilty of this. When my relationship with food and exercise was at it’s very worst, holidays for me was just an eventful day filled with guilt. Now that both relationships have drastically improved and I see a nutritionist holidays are easier on me. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t still find the Holidays tricky at times. But I have collected some advice over the years, so I think it is only fair to share it with you.
1) workout when you can.
An average workout for me is anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. But if you only have half an hour to workout, then workout for that half hour. Choose exercises that incorporate multiply muscle groups (Ex. Squates with and Over head Press) to have a full body workout in a more condensed time frame.
2) If you don’t want it, don’t have it.
I truly hate is when someone tries to force something on me. But I also have a hard time standing my ground and saying no in situations like that. Whether they are trying to have me eat more, or have a specific dessert or drink. Passing things up have become a little more easier for me. However, I just recently stopped eating meat. I have made no official announcement about how I am trying my hand at being a vegetarian to my family, but I have been successful at for some time now. That being said I am already preparing myself for when the turkey is handed to me and I say no. But the way I see it; It’s not their body and they don’t get an opinion on how I choose to treat and nourish it!
3) If you want it, have it.
If your family is like mine then you will have an assortment of desserts at the table. If something is appealing to you and you truly want it than eat it. An extra cookie or slice of pie this one day wont do you any harm I promise you.
4) Don’t show up hungry and drink lots of water.
Holiday meals typically consist of high calorie, high sodium foods. Arriving hungry and dehydrated will result in you consuming more of those foods and water retention. So drink up, and don’t skip a meal to compensate for the big one to come.

5. “Meat Heads” who grunt excessively while Weight Training.
I’m not talking about the small little grunts when that person has pushed their body to it’s absolute max, but have just a few more repetitions left to finish off the set. I am talking about the full on screams! I’ve never understood why people feel the need to draw this much attention to themselves. In my opinion they look and sound stupid. If you have to scream in order to lift that weight it is probably too much for you….
4. Trying to talk to me while I am in the middle of a workout.
This has only happen to me on very rare occasions, and it has only ever been my mom who is guilty of this. My mom is a talker and I love her, but there is a time and a place. While I workout is not the time to discuss with me who called you, and what you said to them. What your fit bit goal is, or that weird dream you had last night!
3. Headphones falling out.
Somehow music just makes a workout more enjoyable. That is until your headphones decide they no longer want to stay in your ears!
2. Untied shoelace.
Having to momentarily bring a HIIT workout to a stop, in order to retie a shoelace in my opinion is the worst! You had so much momentum and energy going and then BOOM! It is over…your shoe lace now requires your attention!
1. Foot cramps.
The kind that makes you sit down. The kind that makes you involuntarily point your toe. The kind that you feel even after they are gone. The kind where you rush to take off your shoe and message out the lump in your arch. Yeah….they are the worst!
1 1/2 Cup Flour
3 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp White Vinegar
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 tsp Olive Oil
3/4 cup Brewed Coffee
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease an 8′ squared baking dish.
2. In a medium bowl mix all ingredients together. Then transfer to baking dish.
3. Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
*Option. While the cake was baking I melted together
1 Cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
1/4 Cup Almond Milk
2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract.
When the cake was finished baking I poured it over the top to make Icing.*
